Amazon FBA reimbursement report reasons explained

Every row of the FBA Reimbursements report has a reason — Lost_Warehouse, CustomerReturn, Reimbursement_Reversal and a handful more. Here is what each one means where a definition is published, what every column holds, and which reasons the free finder counts as warehouse losses.

The reason values are the ones seller-tool documentation lists for this report. Amazon's public report documentation lists the columns but not what each reason means, so a meaning is only given here where a published source states one. If your file shows a reason that is not listed, treat it as unexplained and look at the reimbursement in Seller Central before relying on it.

How the free tools read the reason

The reimbursements analyzer groups your file by whatever reason labels are in it, and shows reversals separately. The lost & damaged inventory finder only subtracts the reasons marked "Yes" in the table above from the losses in your Inventory Ledger: an inbound, customer-return or fee reimbursement is for a different event and must not cancel a warehouse loss. Reversals count as units taken back. The refunded-but-not-returned finder uses the rows that carry the refunded order's amazon-order-id — see customer returns dispositions explained.

original-reimbursement-typeOn a reversal, the reason of the reimbursement being reversed. Empty otherwise.

The report includes reimbursements you asked for and ones Amazon made on its own. When more than one unit is tied to a customer refund, Amazon does not give unit-level detail. Claim windows for anything Amazon missed are in FBA reimbursement claim deadlines.

Questions about the reimbursements report

Where do I download the reimbursements report?

In Seller Central go to Reports, then Fulfillment, then Reimbursements. Amazon describes it as itemized details of your inventory reimbursements, including the reason for each one; it is a tab-delimited file and its content is updated daily.

Why do most of my rows have no case ID?

A case ID only appears when you asked for the reimbursement by opening a case. Reimbursements Amazon makes on its own carry a reimbursement ID but no case ID.

What is a Reimbursement_Reversal?

Amazon taking back money it reimbursed earlier — for example when a unit it paid you for as lost is later found, or when a customer who was refunded does return the item. The original-reimbursement-id column names the reimbursement being reversed and original-reimbursement-type gives its original reason.

Does this report show what Amazon still owes me?

No. It lists reimbursements Amazon has already made. To find units that were lost or damaged and never reimbursed, compare your Inventory Ledger against this report — which is what the free lost & damaged inventory finder does.

Amazon emailed me about a reimbursement. Why isn't it in the report yet?

Reimbursements can take up to five days to appear after they are approved. Also, when more than one reimbursement is processed on the same day for the same issue, they may be combined into a single amount.
